The New Export System (NES) is a UK initiative by HM Customs & Excise (Customs) to enable export declarations to be made electronically. When Customs complete the implementation of NES it will apply to all exports to non-EU countries. NES will replace the existing export procedures; period entry, local export control and simplified procedures. Implementation is in three stages; Dover went "live" in March 2002, all other maritime ports went live in October 2002 and the airports follow in Spring 2003.
The use of NES is not optional and affects any company involved in the export of goods from the UK to non-EU countries.
